Coopertires

Coopertires

OVER 100 YEARS OF HISTORY IN THE TIRE INDUSTRY

The beginnings of Cooper date back to 1914 in Akron, Ohio, when two brothers-in-law John F. Schaefer and Claude E. Hart formed a company to produce tire patches, tire cement, and tire repair kits. In 1915, Schaefer and Hart purchased The Giant Tire & Rubber Company of Akron, a tire rebuilding business, and shortly thereafter moved the business to Findlay, Ohio.

In 1926, Ira. J. Cooper developed the “Cooper Creed” which focused the company on providing “good merchandise, fair play, and a square deal.” The vision of Ira J. Cooper continues at Cooper today.

At Cooper, we believe that manufacturing a quality product is key to ensuring your peace of mind. All Cooper® tires are backed by a standard or premium limited warranty, and select products are also backed by a 45-day road test or mileage warranty, helping to give you peace of mind on the road.

Dunlop Tires

Dunlop Tires

At Northern Auto & Tire Inc., we are a proud provider of Dunlop tires for customers in Honor, MI, Frankfort, MI, and Interlochen, MI, and surrounding areas. Customers are bound to find the right tire to fit their budget in our selection of competitively priced Dunlop tires.

Dunlop: Born Ready to Roll

Dunlop started one day in 1888 when John Boyd Dunlop was watching his son ride his tricycle. Dunlop noticed how rough the ride was because the tires were treaded with metal. So Dunlop glued together the edges of two strips of rubber to make a tube, and then he inflated it with air from a soccer ball pump. Dunlop had invented the first pneumatic rubber tire, which offered a smoother ride than a solid rubber tire, and the modern tire as we know it was born.

With his new invention, Dunlop opened his first tire plant in Dublin in 1889. A tire factory opened in Birmingham, England two years later, and the Dunlop Rubber Company was born. Dunlop continued his work by inventing tires capable of accelerating over 200 miles per hour by 1920, which opened new doors for the company on the racetrack. The Dunlop Rubber Company also designed Dunlop Self-Supporting Technology (DSST) tires, created to support a vehicle’s entire weight even when the tire is punctured or completely flat.

Types of Dunlop Tires:

  • Passenger Car Tires

  • Performance Tires

  • SUV/Crossover Tires

  • Light Truck Tires

  • All-Season Tires

Dunlop. Drivers Know.

Today in North America, as a subsidiary of Goodyear, Dunlop offers an impressive variety of tires. When consumers buy Dunlop tires, they receive quality, durability, and endurance.

For the last 125 years, Dunlop has introduced numerous tire innovations and paved the way for the future of tires. No matter what your driving preferences or vehicle characteristics, Dunlop has the tires for you, because Dunlop is driving to the future.

Firestone: Where Rubber Meets the Road

The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company was founded in 1900 by Harvey Firestone in the rubber capital of the world—Akron, Ohio. Firestone started with only 12 employees, so the company understands the importance of the individual. Every driver wants something different—and Firestone is prepared to give it to them.

Firestone became the original equipment supplier to Ford Motor Company for the Model T in 1906, and Firestone continued producing tires for the replacement market, which kept the business growing until 1988. In 1988, Firestone was purchased by Bridgestone Tire Company, and is still owned by Bridgestone today.

Types of Firestone Tires:

  • Passenger Car Tires

  • Performance Tires

  • SUV tires

  • Minivan Tires

Serving Society with Superior Quality

General Tires

General Tires

Founded in 1915 by William O'Neil and his partner, Winfred Fouse, General Tire and Rubber Company was an outgrowth of Western Tire & Rubber Company. At the time, General Tire entered a market with over 300 competitors, but was determined to get a market share of replacement tire sales. The first tire that General Tire mass-produced was the General Jumbo, a pneumatic truck tire that was first in its class of tire. In the mid-1920's, General invented the General Balloon Jumbos, the first tire to only need 12 pounds of air pressure revolutionizing all tire manufacturing concepts. By 1955, General finally entered the passenger car replacement tire market. General Tire and Rubber Company changed their name in 1984 to GenCorp, Inc, before getting purchased by Continental AG of Hannover, Germany in 1987. Presently, General Tire is wholly owned subsidiary of Continental Tire North America, Inc and leads the pack in development, production, and marketing of quality tires for automobile applications.
General Tire's most popular tire is the Altimax HP. This tire is a high-performance tire that uses advanced technology to give the tire exceptional tread life, low noise, and excellent ride comfort. Visual Alignment Indicators (VAI), Acoustic Modulation Sound Technology (AMST), a Twin Cushion Silica Tread Compound, and Reactive Contour Technology, are technologies used to ensure a quality product. Visual Alignment Indicators (VAI) is a user-friendly application that allows the driver to know when the tread has reached its minimum before needing replacement, with a unique stamp that turns from "Replacement Tire Monitor" to "Replace Tire". Acoustic Modulation Sound Technology (AMST) is a technology that reduces tire noise on roads. A Twin Cushion Tread Compound gives extra support to the tire, allowing for a smooth ride. To add traction, Reactive Contour Technology was used, giving the tires the ability to react to the road surface, giving the driver more control of the car.
The Perfect complement to the high performance vehicle is the General Grabber UHP. This Performance tire ensures confident cornering and stability using high-tech components. Some features of the Grabber UHP are: V-shaped tread pattern with grooves from center of the tire too the shoulders, a flat belt contour, with shallow slots and an increased depth pattern in the shoulder area, and an advanced sound technology with increased noise reduction from varying groove angles.
A light truck option for on and off-road, All-terrain that General Tire manufactures is the Grabber AT². The Graber has a unique self-cleaning tread pattern that gives the tire extremely good traction capabilities. The Grabber AT² has five rows of tread with multiple traction edges, that gives the tire unmatched off-road traction. The extra-deep, highly engineered Acoustic Tread Pattern increases tread life and gives the tire a quiet sound on road and highway driving even with all the traction tread.
